From 573 mt. above the sea level, this impressive fortress has been dominating on the centre of Sarteano for eleven centuries, during which it resisted to the many and famous sieges – among them the great offensive of Cesare Borgia, called the Valentino.

The fortress has been the scene for legends and traditional tells that hand down till nowadays. It rises isolated upon an enormous mass of travertine and it is surrounded bu a luxuriant vegetation, chich during the centuries made the fortress impregnable and nowadays is site for a natural park with secular holm-oaks and a rich underwood.

Here, in straight contact with the natural environment, one can feel the atmosphere of the ancient feats and admire the Chiana valley.

Inside the fortress take place many cultural and oenogastronomic happenings all the year long: historical, artistic, traditional and environmental events in order to make the centre of Sarteano an animated and inviting place.

When?

On Summer:
– From 15th April to 30th September: daily (except Mondays) from 10:30 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 7 pm;
– From 15th July to 15th August: evening openings from 9 pm to 11:30 pm.
On Winter:
– From 1st October to 14th April: Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 10:30 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 5 pm.
Christmas holidays: every day (except Christmas Day) from 10.30 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to sunset.
