Cookery course in Umbria in country house

The county House’s cookery courses aim to teach the traditional cuisine of our area, on the borders of Umbria and Tuscany.
We want to show our guests the way to prepare new dishes that are both typical and full of flavour, but at the same time easy to make so that you will be able to re- do them when you return home, for your family and friends.
As we have lived here for generations we have paid particular attention to the choice of Itineraries aimed at showing the best that Umbria and Tuscany can offer with regards to history art and food.

The courses are for a minimum of 8 people staying in the Country House.

DATES OR COURSES AND PRICES

The available dates for the cookery courses are from April to May and from September to November. The dates and prices are to be agreed with the manager of the Country House.
For organizational reasons the groups have to be for a minimum of 8 people staying at the Country House.
On request other programmes, other than those advertized, can be organized, also for stays less than a week.

PROGRAMME


Day 1 (Saturday afternoon)

  • Arrival at the airport and transfer, by us, to Country House Malagronda. (alternatively you can make your own way)
  • Check in to apartment or room.
  • Dinner in the lovely and welcoming dining room of the country house.
  • Presentation of the programme.

Day 2 (Sunday)

  • Breakfast

  • Departure for Assisi, wonderful medieval City where Saint Francis was born, the city is perched on Mount Subasio and still surrounded by its antique wall that finishes at the castle La Rocca. It is a splendid sight.
  • Visit to the Basilica of Santa Maria of the Angels the Hermitage and Mount Subasio.
  • Restaurant Lunch
  • Visit to the Basilica of Saint Francis.
  • Free time to wander round the historic centre of the Assisi
  • Return to Country House
  • Dinner in the restaurant of the Country house.

Day 3 (Monday)

  • BreakfastMontalcino
  • departure for Val D’Orcia, Tuscany
  • Wine tasting at Banfi ‘s of Montalcino and visit to glass and bottle museum, Montalcino has a fantastic view over the plains of Tuscany where vineyards from where the famous Brunello wines are made of grow up to Lazio.
  • Short visit to Pienza, Pienza is a renascence and was defined by Pascoli “City born from a loving thought in a dream of beauty”
  • Lunch at the restaurant “Dal Falco” in Pienza
  • Wine tasting in the wine cellar “Redi “ in Montepulciano, Montepulciano is defined “Pearl of the 1500s for its famous renascence artists. The production of the Nobile wine has been going since 790 a.d.Pienza
  • return to the country house
  • Cookery school: risotto, preparation of stuffing for roasts and greens
  • Dinner in Country House with the dishes prepared during the lesson.

Day 4 (Tuesday)

  • Breakfast
  • ChiusiDeparture for the Etruscan City of Chiusi, Tuscany. Chiusi is Antique Chamars, city of the Etruscans and the king Porsenna that defeated Rome
  • Visit to the catacombs, the cathedral, the collection of Benedict antique manuscripts and the Etruscan Aqueduct.
  • Visit to the Etruscan museum and tombs
  • Lunch in the Country House
  • Cookery school: Legume Soup, different types of bread, “Torta al testo”, brustengoli” “strufoli” and other
    Sweets.
  • Dinner in the Country house with the dishes prepared during the lesson. Wine tasting of Umbrian wines with a selection of local cheeses and salami.

Day 5 (Wednesday)

  • Breakfast
  • Perugiadeparture for Perugia, principal town of Umbria. City developed from a Etruscan-roman nucleus where you can find the best of Italian expression the Medieval era and the renaissance period that has created a city of unimaginable atmosphere.
  • Visit to the Rocca Paolina, the Notary Rooms, The Collegio del Cambio and Mercanzia, The Maggiore Fountain and the cathedral.
  • Free time to explore
  • Lunch in a Restaurant in Perugia.
  • Visit to a ceramic factory in Deruta
  • Return to Country house
  • Cookery School: Meat Crostini appetizers, potato gnocchi, preparation of fried Meats and various vegetables.
  • Dinner in the Country house with the dishes prepared during the lesson.

Day 6 (Thursday)

  • Breakfast
  • OrvietoDeparture for Orvieto, Umbria. Etruscan city that rises on a ledge of tuff, famous for its wines, Romanic and gothic architecture and Renaissance buildings
  • visit to the Cathedral and the Saint Brizio Chapel.
  • visit Orvieto “Underground”
  • Free time to have a walk in the centre.
  • Lunch in a Pizzeria
  • short visit to Todi
  • return to the Country House
  • Dinner in Restaurant “Il Mondo Antico” in Piegaro. The food is served by a staff in medieval costume for a fun atmosphere medieval. The menu will include some Tuscan specialties.

Day 7 (Friday)

  • Breakfast
  • Tuoro sul Trasimenodeparture for Tuoro on Trasimeno, Umbria. Here the battle of trasimeno was fought in 217bc between the Romans and the Carthaginians of Hannibal
  • Visit to the document centre and the battle grounds
  • visit to the “Campo del Sole”
  • Lunch at a fish restaurant “Da Massimo” of San Feliciano village (If you don’t like fish there are alternatives)
  • Tour of Lake Trasimeno
  • Return to the House Country
  • Cookery School: preparation of traditional festival menu,
    • with meat sauce and roast meats with various side dishes.
    • Coffee break
    • Home made pasta: tagliatelle, ravioli, cappelletti.
  • Dinner in the Country house with the dishes prepared during the lesson.
  • After dinner guests will be presented with certificates of their participation in the course and a gift to remember your week with us.

Day 8 (Saturday Morning)

  • Breakfast
  • Transfer to the airport

ENGLISH AND FRENCH

All of the excursions will be in English (or French on request), with a professional guide.
During the cooking lessons there will be someone who speaks English.
