Visiting Umbria

Trasimeno Lake

From the country house malagronda it is easy to reach all the interesting, historical and picturesque places in Umbria.
We advise our guests to visit the medieval hamlets, the Etruscan and renaissance cities of Umbria:

Città della Pieve (8 km far from country house)

Charming Town, with interesting architecture that tells us of the Etruscan and medieval renaissance history. It was home to the artist “Il Perugino “and several of his works are there. In august there is a race the for “Palio of the Terziere” in medieval costume.

Castiglione del Lago (15 km far from country house)

Medieval town with castle walls, from the tower you can see a wonderful view of the Lake Trasimeno.
Along the promenade there are spots equipped for water sports and beaches with various attractions and quays with connections to the islands of the lake.

Perugia (40 km far from country house)

Umbra’s main city of Etruscan origins. The main square is beautiful with its cathedral and fountain. The Palazzo dei Priori hosts the national gallery. The city is known worldwide for its Chocolate Perugina within its factory there is a museum open to the public. Euro chocolate (October) is a chocolate festival and Umbria Jazz (July) is a music festival where world famous artists perform.

Orvieto (50 km far from country house)

This beautiful city was built on a huge tuff rock. It is famous for its Gothic cathedral and building that now host important museums and works of art. You must see the well of St. Patrick, the cathedral with the chapel of St. Brizio and the guided trip around Orvieto Underground. Not mention the world famous wines.

Assisi (60 km far from country house)

Birthplace of St.Francis, Assisi sits at the foot of Mount Subasio and is uncontaminated beauty. You can visit the numerous churches all rich with art and frescoes: The Basilica of San Francesco, San Damiano where Santa Chiara lived and died and half way up the Subasio you can find the Hermitage.

Todi (60 km far from country house)

Jacapone da Todi was born here. Three different city walls enclosed this beautiful city packed with history, monuments and palaces preserving the works of art that tell the City’s story. Explore the narrow street and alleys in the centre.
Important dates: Antique fair (April) and Exhibition of handicrafts (August).

Gubbio (80 km far from country house)

Gubbio lies at the foot of Monte Ingino; it is an elegant and beautiful city with an authentic medieval feel. It is a must to see and discover via the lift than will take you to each of the three levels of the city. From the beautiful square which is surrounded by impressive monumental buildings you get an amazing view.
In May the famous “Corsi dei Ceri “ is held in honour of St. Ubaldo.

Spoleto (95 km far from country house)

Once the capital of the Duchy, Spoleto hosts important monuments and its original roman sites. To see are the Cathedral the Rocca castle and the hilltop of Monteluco.
Important dates are the lyric season (August to September) and the festival of the two worlds (June –July).

Norcia (180 km far from country house)

Saint Benedict, patron saint of Europe, was born here. It is situated in the Val del Sordo with a backdrop of mountains and is surrounded by a city wall 1300.
To see: the Rocca castle, the church of Saint Benedict and its museum.
You should try the local black truffles, the salami and the trout from the nearby rivers, above Norcia is the Castelluccio plain which is famous for it coloured fields of flowers in spring. Also good are the lentils that are grown there.
Important dates: “June blossoms” on Castelluccio and the Truffle festival in Norcia (October).
